The First Ever Contemporary Art Movement from India,
with a defined ‘ism’ - Experiential Realism
Online Art Portal & Gallery
Experiential Realism – art of diverse stylization that essentially portrays a meaning, an idea, a concern or an understanding that is rooted from one’s own experiences in life.
Devdan Chaudhuri, Founder, Owner & Chief-Creative
Bodhi Tree Monastery of Art ( BTMOA ) is privileged to lead the very first contemporary art movement from India, with a defined ‘ism’ to mark the arrival of a fresh wave in art.
The online art portal is the very first from Eastern India, and also the very first art portal in India to be run by an art gallery.
This will enable art lovers and art collectors, from all over the world, to experience and to collect the works of exciting contemporary artists / ‘experiential realists’.
This will augment art appreciation, due to the creative sensibility of the presentation, where the artist’s note will inspire greater understanding of the art, and make art more popular.
This art portal will also create many first time collectors, with a contemporary modern mindset, who will be able to identify with the art presented, and will be excited by the talent on offer and the affordable prices.
We also understand that to offer quality art with honest prices (minus speculation) is the best way to serve art, the artists and the collectors.
The artists represented in this portal come from various parts of India, and also includes an artist of a different nationality. But all of them are related to Bengal by birth, by education or by residence.
As we go along, we will include exciting talents, irrespective of their relationship with a particular geographical area, and also include more artists of different nationalities, and evolve to a ‘global art portal’, with a dedicated focus on
BTMOA believes in the idea of “Yuva Ojas Ayus” or ‘power to the energy of youth’, and will continue to identity and support exciting talents, and promote their works through this art portal, launched in the month of July, 2012.
BTMOA have sponsored and promoted several artists, including folk artists, through solo / group exhibitions, since its inception in December 2008.
BTMOA was the first art gallery to introduce the very first Action Art Event in Kolkata where the artist paints listening to music, and aims to depict the essential nature of the music in the form of a painting.
BTMOA was also the first art gallery in Bengal to initiate an All Bengal Art Talent Hunt in 2010, and gave the opportunity to emerging artists from Bengal to attend a sponsored art camp in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, where they could show their
works directly to the leading art collectors of India. After the inspired success of 2010 & 2011, the third edition of the same - Journey of Art (comprising of 3 events- All Bengal Art Talent Hunt, Jodhpur Art Camp & Kolkata Exhibition of the
Winners) is happening in 2012, as well.
BTMOA also hosts foreign artists. The works of well-known French artist Bruce Clarke were displayed for the first time in India in March 2011, and the artist himself attended the show in Kolkata.
Owner and Chief-Creative of BTMOA, Devdan Chaudhuri, modeled the architecture of the gallery, located in Swiss Park, South Kolkata, on the European Art Cafés cum Galleries, which he became aware of during his student years in England.
Devdan Chaudhuri is also a photographer, and has exhibited his works which combine photography and poetry.
BTMOA has taken 3 functions ( art gallery, café and a garden ) and merged them into a singular flowing aesthetical ambience, that also serves as the shared communal space for the resident guests of Bodhi Tree – Boutique Guest House &
Serviced Apartment ( www.bodhitreekolkata.com )
